I like the idea of poker electronic poker tables as I said here.
But don't invest in the manufacturers on the Nasdaq until this little difficulty is sorted out, as reported by the Motley Fool
"But my favorite filing this week comes courtesy of PokerTek (Nasdaq: PTEK), which has created an automated poker table called PokerPro. By eliminating the need for a dealer, the theory goes, the company can juice casino profits by dealing more hands, more often.
Profit-seeking is a noble goal, especially for an unabashed capitalist like me. But there's a difference between profit-seeking and profit-taking, even if Chief Financial Officer Christopher Daniels doesn't recognize it.
According to this filing, Daniels might have used the company credit card to fund personal purchases. We don't how much and for what (please, God, tell me it's not ice sculptures), but the Audit Committee of the company's board has commenced an independent investigation of all corporate credit card use. Daniels is on administrative leave until that investigation is resolved.
I know I shouldn't have to state the obvious here, but I'll do it anyway: Stay away from this stock until the Audit Committee reveals its findings. Or, in poker parlance, treat PokerTek the same way you would deal with an off-suit seven-deuce in hold 'em poker: fold."

Electronic Poker Tables
An intersting development reported here
I like the idea, the best of both worlds, being able to see opponents but not having to worry about dropping cards chips etc.

PartyPoker Premier League Final on TV Tonight
The highly acclaimed PartyPoker Premier League Poker final airs on Channel 4 tonight. A two part final awaits poker fans. Phil Hellmuth and Vicky Coren, amongst others, take their seats.
Hellmuth has the chip lead and you can be certain that the "Poker Brat" will be in high spirits as the final begins. However, the others finalists are sure to want to wipe the grin off Hellmuth's face. Taking on the multi-WSOP bracelet winner are Juha Helppi, Eddy Scharf, Ian Frazer, Liz Lieu and Vicky Coren.
The PartyPoker Premier League series began way back in May. If you haven't tuned in yet then you've missed a rare TV poker treat!
The tournament brought together 12 of the worlds best poker players to fight it out in a unique league format. Each player bought their way in for $20,000. PartyPoker added $260,000 to the total prize pool, making this event worth a staggering $500,000.
A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: "We are very pleased with the response to Premier League Poker and have been inundated by enquiries from pros from all over the world about how they can get involved in the future. It has the winning combination of having bags of personality and world class poker."
The players were quick to praise the tournament too. "Premier League Poker featured a fantastic format filled with skill, twists and turns, great players and made for electric television." Said Phil Hellmuth.
"This is a totally different concept and will make great television, it's like a poker Big Brother. It sets a new bar for televised poker." Commented Dave "The Devilfish" Ulliott
Finally, Tony G got the last word when he enthused, "The Premier League is the best poker event I have ever played in. A real breakthrough for poker."
Joining Jesse May in the commentary booth for the final will be Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot and Tony G.
The final table standings are as follows:
Phil Hellmuth (USA) 350,000 chips
Eddy Scharf (GER) 310,000 chips
Juha Helppi (FIN) 260,000 chips
Ian Frazer (ENG) 250,000 chips
Liz Lieu (USA) 230,000 chips
Vicky Coren (ENG) 200,000 chips
The final airs early on Wednesday morning (12:10am) on Channel 4.

Well I played real money poker for the first time for a while tonight, I stormed into a massive chip lead early on when my JJ held up against A 10, but then I crashed and burned with some wild play going out in 21 out of 23, still it was only £3 and I will probably take it more seriously next time, looks like it is a cagey game played more for the glory than the money!

Robbed by Skeletons
A disturbing story from Utah here
Salt Lake City police are investigating the robbery of a high-stakes poker game.
Police said about six to eight friends claim they were waiting to leave for a trip to Las Vegas and gathered at a home near 500 North and J Street for a few hands of poker at about 5 a.m. Tuesday.
During the game, police said the victims claimed three men wearing black Halloween costumes burst in.
"One guy has a gun, the other two have knives," Salt Lake City Police detective Jeff Bedard said Wednesday.
The robbers — whom the men described as black men wearing skeleton costumes — demanded the money.
"They just demanded the money and told them not to look at them," Bedard said.
The victims at first claimed they lost $10,000. Then they claimed they lost $19,000, police said. The three robbers fled in a van. The victims waited about 20 minutes to call police.
A police dog was brought to the home but was unable to find any sign of the robbers. Police said they were still investigating on Wednesday.

An interesting story reproduced here.
Harvard Law Profs Backing Poker as Educational Tool in Schools, Universities
SINGAPORE, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Harvard Law School professor Charles
Nesson will announce an international effort to organize "poker strategic
thinking societies" at universities and secondary schools around the world
that will use poker as an educational tool to teach everything from basic
life skills to war games at military colleges.
Nesson will announce the formation of the Global Poker Strategic
Thinking Society (GPSTS) in Singapore on August 19 during an international
conference called State of Play. Chapters of the GPSTS will be organized at

GPSTS will offer poker strategic thinking workshops to secondary
schools and community centers, particularly in underprivileged
neighborhoods; sponsor team poker matches between law, business and other
graduate-level programs; and conduct seminars and conferences that explore
poker as a means to teach strategic thinking and related public policy
issues.
"Poker is ONE of the best metaphors for teaching life skills across a
variety of disciplines," said Nesson, a founder of Harvard's Berkman Center
on Internet Law.
Part of the goal of the poker societies is to organize an NCAA-style
championship in the novel game of team poker for American universities.
Press and media representatives are invited to attend both the lecture
and workshop in Singapore at the State of Play conference. Professor Nesson
and colleagues will be available for interviews.

Betfair WSOPE freeroll
Great Poker
Online Poker is alive and Kicking.
I played a freeroll on betfair tonight and finished 8 out of 1394 starters. No prize money but a seat at another freeroll on 2nd September with the top 10 going into the main event at WSOPE Europe (worth $23,000). There will probably be thousands of people in the 2nd September tournament but I will give it a go you never know what might happen.
Bring it on!

Norwich Poker Craze
I saw this old article whilst surfing the web today
Evening News
Norwich Poker Club has about 600 members and moved from Anglia Square to new premises on the third floor of Sackville Place, off Magdalen Street, on Saturday.
Norwich Poker Club
I have seen adverts for this poker club on Poker Jokers site when it was based in a disused pub on Aylsham Road.
I beleive a few Hell's Kitchen regulars have had some success there!
I think I will have to check it out and report back. Watch this space.

Poker at the Pirates Birthday
I played an 8 handed freeze out at the Pirates on Saturday, some formidable opponents including 3 Poker Joker Big One winners (The Pirate, Braveheart and Black Cat). Interesting that there was no draw for seating so I positioned myself on the Pirate's and Braveheart's right so that they would have to react to my action rather than the other way round.
Pleased to report that I was again in the money, reached the Heads Up with a large chip lead and acceppted a deal offerred by Andy to split the purse as I needed to get a lift back to the city and my heads up play had been awful on Thursday.

Private Game
OK I am off to play in a home game at Hell's Kitchen (Thursday night), a no limit hold em freeze out, I will report on the outcome tomorrow.
Cheers
Professor
UPDATE: came second, in the money, and I played ok, would have won if I had been dealt any decent cards at all, so fairly pleased with my play!
